Jesus’ teachings are not recommendations for how we should “feel.” They are commands for how we should act. Where we prefer to act in compliance with how we feel, Jesus calls us to act in a way that is often in defiance of how we feel. What does that mean? If we plan to follow the commands of Jesus, we will do some things we do not feel like doing. Our gut (aka pride, selfishness, sinful nature, etc.) is going to tell us, “No, this doesn’t work for me.” Jesus is going to tell us…..” IT AIN’T ABOUT YOU! In Luke 6:27, Jesus says, “Love your enemies.” The word “enemy” elicits all kinds of feelings. Today more than ever, we need to be reminded; it is not about our feelings. It is about our doings.
