There was a time when we would meet someone, find something in common, and the conversation would ensue. Lately if feels like that dynamic has shifted into our society fixated on finding what we don’t have in common and live in that space. Sadly it feels as of late that message has been amplified beyond our control. Now days having an opinion can be terrifying for some to share and that can be where hate starts to enter one’s heart. In those moments we feel like we are taking a position in favor of an issue, when in reality, we’re favoring hate.
In today’s study, NO ROOM FOR HATE, we navigate how to caution ourselves in those moments where our feelings are in conflict with our faith. Our feelings are telling us to react strongly about our opinion and our faith is telling us to react lovingly toward those people. Our feelings want us to think of ourselves first. Our faith wants us to remember the words of Jesus when he said In Mark 8:34, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way…”. More than ever do we need a reminder that when you sprinkle even the slightest bit of hate into the recipe, that’s exactly what you get.
