A police officer typically starts their shift with a briefing or roll call. It is designed to take roll, pass along critical information, and provide relevant training. Motivated officers hurry out of briefing and quickly advise dispatch they are "10-8", which is the radio code for "in service". The lazier officers hang around the station, trying to delay the time before going 10-8. You see, once you go 10-8, "in service", you have to serve. That can be very risky and a total inconvenience, especially when I only want to serve myself. Briefing is the place you talk about the doing. Going "in service" is where you DO! James 1:21-23 says briefing is for "hearing God's word". Going 10-8 is for doing God's word. Sure, we must show up for briefing and discuss God's word and application, but too many of us don't get to that critical next step. We don't DO. In that same passage in James says the one is listening and not doing, "has no idea who they are or what they look like" (Message translation). Lets stop talking about doing, and LET'S DO IT!
