All of us would love for life - at least on a personal level - to be linear when it comes to our hopes and dreams. We like it when things happen according to our timelines, expectations, and outcomes. Good luck with that! Jesus is very honest that the exact opposite will frequently happen and you are going to have some assurance to make it through those times on the road of life. One of the biggest curveballs to hit the disciples was when their expectation of Jesus collided with the crucifixion and death of Jesus. You could say it was a speed bump so big it broke the axel and they had to pull over in the middle of nowhere not sure what was next on the road to God. But into their despair came some hope at just the right time and were they ever surprised! Whether we like to admit it or not - we all need to see tangible hope in real time in order to keep our hope in God alive. Key word? Alive.
