Part 3 – David v Saul

Taking responsibility is a sign of maturity. Avoiding responsibility - well – that’s the stuff of boys. In fact, you probably remember your parents or a teacher or coach putting you in a corner at some point in your life and saying, “Well, what do you have to say for yourself?” The first two Kings of Israel were men just like us – their names were David and Saul. One man is famously referred as the “man after God’s own heart” and Israel’s greatest warrior, king, and poet. The other man is better known as the guy who lost his job as the leader of God’s people. Both of these men made terrible mistakes as men put into a leadership position by God (which is comforting to know). But why did only one of these men lose favor with God in the midst of his mistake while the other gained favor with God in the midst of his? That’s something every believing man should want to know!
