No professional athlete hopes to stay in the minor leagues. No business student hopes to live out his career as a junior manager. No musician stops practicing after they have perfected Hot Cross Buns. They want to mature in their trade and they are willing to do the hard work and intentional thinking so that they can grow. Yet, there are countless men throughout churches that are contently living as spiritual babies. The scriptures are blindingly clear that followers of Jesus are called to seek maturity in their faith and take action to do so. Heb. 5:14 calls us to “train”. The Greek word there is gumnazo—where we get the word “gymnasium”. Yeah, men, its time to the hit the gym! There is unknown, unfathomable, spiritual strength and maturity for God’s man who is willing to throw away his “can’t”s and start training. In this session, we are going to challenge you toward spiritual disciplines you may not be comfortable with for your own personal maturity. God has big plans for you to make an impact in His kingdom, but He needs you to burn off some of that spiritual flabbiness.
